Sony WH-1000XM5 Review – The Ultimate Noise-Canceling Headphones

My passion for wireless headphones is pretty well-known around my circle of friends and family. Being a musician myself, I love listening to songs on-the-go. Moreover, I like to immerse myself while listening to music. As a result, I have never been a fan of wireless earbuds. Earbuds are not ideal for listening to songs for a long time.

After a while, earbuds feel irritable on the ear and they slip out if you move your head too fast. While I have had my share of stints with multiple wireless headphones, my latest acquisition Sony WH-1000XM5 takes the cake in terms of comfort, sound quality and satisfaction.

In this article, I will try to share my experience of using Sony WH-1000XM5 so that this Sony WH-1000XM5 review helps music enthusiasts make an informed decision while purchasing the product.

Released in the middle of 2022 and priced at $330, these over-ear headphones sport a fresh design that really sets them apart from the previous model, all thanks to their mostly recycled (and recyclable) materials.

Design and Comfort

Sony opted out of the foldable design of WH-1000XM4 and went for a more streamlined design. The comfortable memory-foam ear cups and lightweight design of Sony WH-1000XM5 are meant to ensure these headphones are ideal for long musical sessions. However, the absence of the foldability feature makes Sony WH-1000XM5 slightly less convenient than its predecessor.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is one thing Sony clearly excels at and Sony WH-1000XM5 is no exception either. If you love deep bass and clarity while listening to music, you are in for a treat. They also support LDAC, which is nice if you want to stream Hi-Resolution audio. Moreover, their companion app offers a graphic equalizer where you can adjust the sound according to your need.

Noise Cancellation & Features

Sony has come all guns blazing on the noise cancellation front, using two processors and eight microphones to dull out ambient noise better than ever. The “Speak-to-Chat” feature automatically pauses audio when you start talking, while Adaptive Sound Control adjusts settings based on your environment.

Battery Life & Connectivity

Sony WH-1000XM5 promises over 25 hours of battery life and is ideal for those long flights or road trips. Moreover, with the quick-charging feature which promises 3 hours of playback on just 3 minutes of charge, it is ideal everyday use. Multipoint Bluetooth pairing allows seamless switching between devices, making them perfect for work and travel.
